Certified Addiction Counselor Requirements (CAC-R)
- Experience:
No degree – 8,000 hours
Bachelors – 4,000 hours
Masters – 2,000 hours
Degree must be in behavioral science/human services from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. - 270 contact hours of education
Minimum of 180 hours must be “specific” to substance abuse.* - 300 hours direct supervision specific to the counseling of AODA clients (with a minimum of 10 hours in each Core Function)
- IC&RC written exam and CPM oral exam
