Certified Addiction Professional
The Florida Certification Board now offers two different levels of certification for bachelor's level addiction professionals depending on what your degree is in.
Tier 1 requires the degree to be in a counseling related field and Tier 2 applicants can have a bachelors in most any health and human services field. See below for the link to determine if you are Tier 1 or Tier 2. CAP Tier 1 and CAP Tier 2 Requirements
Dr. Snipes has chosen particular courses that will be helpful for you as an addiction counselor, and meet the Tier 1 standards.
Please make sure you have reviewed the document from the Florida Certification Board to CONFIRM if you need the training for TIER 1 OR TIER 2.
Curriculum
TIER 1: 150 Hours Required
- 80 Hours: Understanding Addiction / Treatment Knowledge
- 25 Hours: Application to Practice (6 hours in ethics)
- 15 Hours: Documentation
- 15 Hours: Client/Family/Community Education
- 15 Hours: Case Management
TIER 2: 250 Hours Required
- Understanding Addiction/Treatment Knowledge: 80 hours
- Application to Practice/ Professional Readiness: 25 hours
- Documentation: 15 hours
- Client/Family/ Community Education: 15 hours
- Case Management: 15 hours
- Clinical Evaluation: 25 hours
- Treatment Planning: 15 hours
- Counseling: 30 hours
- Ethical and Professional Responsibilities: 30 hours – 6 hours specific to ethics
